the evolution of its iconic Flax Car Audio speaker drivers

Since 1979, the cutting-edge French high-fidelity manufacturer has been on a constant quest for innovation across its speaker drivers, the heart of its trade. Among its technologies, the Flax cone was unveiled in 2013 and quickly established itself as a reference. From acoustic loudspeakers for the home to audio kits for the car, Flax technology seduces music enthusiasts over the world with the pure sound, natural midranges and deep bass it delivers. In its constant quest for ever more excellence, Focal has reworked its line and now presents Flax Evo.

SOUND PURITY

A shining example of Focal expertise, the Flax cone is light, rigid and damped, the three essential elements for the ‘ideal’ speaker driver. Manufactured in the Focal workshops, it is made of very high-quality French flax – considered the best in the world – positioned between two thin layers of glass fibre. It is characterised by its very natural sound without coloration, a rich reproduction in the midrange and clear bass strokes. In its constant quest for excellence, Focal has built on the assets of its exclusive Flax technology while redesigning it for its Car Audio kits with the addition of improvements and innovations.

A COMPLETE AND EASY-TO-INTEGRATE LINE

The Flax Evo line of audio kits includes a 2-way coaxial kit, four 2-way component kits including the new PS 165 FSE with its shallow basket design, a 3-way component kit as well as four subwoofers, including the new P 20 FSE which also boasts a ‘slim’ design for easy installation and integration into vehicle factory locations. With their ability to handle high-performance amplification, these kits can be combined with any product from the Focal electronics range. A subtle blend of modern aluminium bowls and traditional flax, the Flax Evo kits offer a unique, sophisticated and elegant design.

EVO STANDS FOR EVOLUTION

While Flax technology represents perfect harmony between balance and high dynamics, Flax Evo also delivers new innovations:

• The TAM tweeter: manufactured in France by Focal, it comprises an inverted dome cone made from an Aluminium-Magnesium alloy which we have moulded into the famous ‘M’ shape, exclusive to Focal. This shape gives it a wider diffusion angle, perfect for in-car installations where off-axis listening is a formality.

• The Tuned Mass Damper (TMD®) surround is new to the range, equipping the TAM tweeter but also all the speaker drivers, where it plays an essential role in midrange reproduction as well as in the elimination of acoustic distortion.

Located on the Focal audio kit market between the K2 Power line and the Polyglass line, Flax Evo is a perfect compromise between performance and price.
